Kelly Allen's Book Review

I was recently asked to review The Teenage Girls Survival Bible by Jane Bradley. I know Molly isn’t a teenager (yet!) but I do believe being prepared for this complicated time of life is essential.

Book Review: Teenage Girls Survival Bible by Jane Bradley

I love books and having a sort of self-help guide ready for when puberty sets in is a dream come true. I’ve always been honest with my children and I think this will long continue, but it’s great to have something for your child for the times when they might not want to talk to a parent. As sad as this fact is (I remember feeling this, don’t you?!), having a support network in terms of other family members to turn to or, in this case, a book.

The Teenage Girls Survival Bible by Jane Bradley is a detailed guide to all parts of teenage life. The book is broken down into seven sections; survival, your body, your face, knowledge, love, all about them, all about you. Each section offers an insight into the different things potentially going on in the teenager’s life.

There’s an abundance of knowledge based advice and support throughout the book. I love how it feels incredibly modern and fashionable in terms of style and illustrations, yet it focuses in on some very serious topics. From drugs and alcohol to body confidence, it covers everything your teenage daughter could possibly need.

My favourite section has to be ‘It’s All About Them’. This section goes into detail about parents and how much they love their child. It also explains how parents were all teenagers once, and I think this is something we as parents need to tune into. We need to remember how difficult that time was for ourselves, and maybe tread more softly when it comes to our own children.

There are also useful tips in the book, such as recipes or how to go shopping to suit your style. This takes the edge off the more difficult subjects, such as pregnancy and plastic surgery. The book ends with top tips for being your best you, and a reminder to love yourself…

I really would recommend this book because it creates a fun and inspiring way to live the teenage years with happiness and positivity. I love how it’s been designed and I think it would be a very good tool to have for those days when your daughter might not want to ‘talk’ to a parent.
